Malcolm Little
Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925, in Omaha Nebraska to Earl and Louise Little, a Baptist and Homemaker; he was also one of seven children. His father was a member of the (UNIA) and a follower of Marcus Garvey , a Jamacian political leader who had founded the Black star line, part of the Back to Africa movement , which promoted the return of the African diaspora to their ancestral lands, this got him into trouble with some white supremacists (the KKK). In 1929, Malcolm's home in Lansing Michigan was burned down but the family was not harmed. Two years later, Malcolm's father, Earl Little was killed in a streetcar "accident" ; this broke the family apart, literally. In 1938, Mrs. Louise Little could not support her seven children on her own, and the stress pushed her to the point of being put into a mental institution. Malcolm was placed in a foster home until 1941 when Ella Collins, his half sister, took the now 15 year old Malcolm to Boston.
